Zune EHD-00001 Customer Reviews

"Exactly what I need"
The good: I've had experience with the large, awkward Zune's in the past, but this reincarnation reminds me nothing of it's primordial ancestor. The screen is beautiful and movies played on it really pop out, sound quality exceeded expectations and the interface on the device is intuitive. Battery life is on par with other devices and varies greatly depending on the settings. I work ~10 hours a day at the office and with the screen on high brightness and the longest text-scroll it gets me through the day pretty easily.

This little Zune has gotten compliments from everyone who has seen it. I put heavy emphasis on quality and cost, so this was a pleasant surprise for me. Zune vs. Ipod isn't a big concern to me, but all of my friends with Ipods really seem to like this device too.

Now the bad: the screen, while breathtaking, is the worst fingerprint magnet I've ever owned. It's easy enough to clean, but the irony isn't lost since this is a touch device. The device's software is very intuitive and has some nice surprises, but the manual is lacking and forces the user to explore -- not everyone likes that. Finally, the software on the computer is far from intuitive. Trying to figure out how to upload files to the device for the first time is like trying to stab a mosquito in the dark, but after the first run through it becomes a bit more friendly.

Conclusion: if you're willing to put 15 minutes into exploring the computer and device software, and if you can live with some smudges, the Zune offers great sound quality and video in a very attractive package at a great price. Sans the technically challenged I would recommend this to anyone.

"Great Buy!"
This is a great product, better than Ipod touch in navigation of menus and features. The only down side to this item is the amount of apps. There are not very many apps availible but over time more will be released.

"MUCH better than my RCA Opal..."
Context is always in important in any review, and most never provide this data. First off, I owe both a PC and a Mac. Love both: they're different and do things better here and there--the Windows vs. Apple crap never entered my decision making. My previous MP3 player was an 8GB RCA Opal and I wanted the same functionality--MP3 and video--only better. I chose the Zune over the Ipod because it did the Opal better, provides HD radio, and has twice the capacity 16GB v 8GB at a cheaper price. The Zune, as one might expect, since it's new technology, is vastly superior. The UI is incredible. It's very easy to play a song FAST. With the Opal, if you could push an oddly organized button interface with Steve Austin ("The Six Million Dollar Man" for those of the younger set) speed, you could, maybe, do as well. I really like being able to find songs by a letter in the alphabet. Very convenient. The touch screen is a new world to me: so much better and fun. The sound quality is also very good and loud. At level 20, one would be hard pressed to listen for more than 30 minutes without having to turn it down and 30 is the max volume. Not having a so-called "external" volume control is not a problem. Push one button and you're there!

A word about updating the Zune and Zune software. When I updated my Zune (this happens after you install the software on your PC and connect the first time), the program hanged between steps 3 and 4. Well, knowing there was a problem, I unplugged the Zune and it wouldn't turn on--yikes! Turns out I had to hold the on button for a full 10 seconds to reset the mechanism. When I checked firmware version (settings-->ABOUT-->ZUNE), I saw that it had indeed updated from 4 to 4.5. I guess the software attempts to reboot the Zune yet fails. Also, you must remember even though you add music and videos to the Zune software, you still need to drag the items to the Zune player icon (lower left) to transfer the material to the device. A little Zune icon appears next to the item letting you know that it's on the player. I usually move things manually and don't sync. You can create playlists and edit song data, too.

If you're looking for a killer MP3 player with video and HD radio, look no further. Zune is for you.

"Sooo much better than Ipod"
I bought this one for it's capacity and HD radio feature and I found out that it is much more than I expected!! Using this device with it's touch screen is very easy. The music library is better organized than Itunes and I have many options of organizing my music.
I had difficulties getting it ready at my Windows 7 home PC but after getting the update software at my Windows XP office PC it's was OK to use it at home. The 16GB capacity it's amaizing and I just can't get it full!!! hehehehehe
