"BIG Bang for the Buck!"
Initial Review for the Sansa 4GB Clip. [factory refurbished]
I recently purchased and received two of these units for $58 total including shipping. If you are purchasing new at nearly $50 each I would strongly recommend a Sony Walkman [MP3] player. Two years ago I bought a 4GB for $55 and myself an 8GB for around $85. BUT these refurb. units Sansa is offering are OUTSTANDING! First impressions: Small generic brown box, no special instructions, came with a "new" looking player in silver, mini-usb [motorolla phone/wall charger also works], new earbuds. I elected to order the silicone slip-ons for about $2.50 additional for each. They both came about half charged and took about an hour to top-off to full. I plugged on into desktop that has my 30GB music library and it booted the sync-screen up in a short moment. The Sansa interface is quick and easy to use with Win-Media [which I prefer, not fond of itunes/ipods]. Sync prep is as simple as drop-drag and sync. Sync is SUPER fast for a price-point product like this, almost as fast as my Sony unit[s]. I was able to load both nearly to capacity about 3.85GB in a short 15 minutes.

Originally purchased one as a gift [retirement] for my 61 y/o dad-in-law [will be his first MP3], but after going to youtube I took the chance I buying two. One as a gift and the other for myself to use in those instances where I don't want to bring an expensive Sony, like the jobsite [contractor], exposed to weather, backpack camping, fishing, boating, beach, gym, etc. Or when I go to evening class at the community college.

Bottom line: If you can find one refurb for $20-something get it, it would be a great unit as a back-up/extra unit or for a youngster you don't want to spend a ton of cash on [ipod?]. Depending on your music quality taste you may want to use a better set of earbuds. Sansa's are ok but both my Jlab's and Sony earbuds sounded better. Most people have extra earbuds lying around their house anyways. I will post updates as Dad and I continue to use this seemingly fine product.

"Headphone jack doesn't fit properly"
I was very hopeful about the Sansa Clip: it seemed to be exactly what I was looking for, features-wise. I'm very disappointed, therefore, that the workmanship is such poor quality. The headphone jack's contacts must have been improperly installed, because they're misaligned. Out of the box, if I plug the headphones in all the way, there's no sound. The headphones have to be balanced in the middle, very precariously, in order to get sound. This results in the music skipping as the headphones get knocked out of place by motion. On my first player, I couldn't even walk with it without the music skipping worse than my beat-up middle school knock-off Walkman. I got in touch with Sansa customer support and they quickly arranged an RMA and sent me a replacement unit. The second one fits a little more snugly, but still not fully in. It's ok for walking, but my main intended use for the player was in my car. That's impossible - even the "better" unit gets the jack dislodged with every little bump or pothole. It's completely useless in a car. Looking back through some of the comments I see I'm not the only one to have this problem either.

My other complaint is with the playlists - one of the main reasons I chose the Sansa over, say, a Shuffle, was the ability to create playlists. My problem is that when I create a playlist and sync it to the player, the playlist shows up but shows as being empty (despite the music being on the player). And this is using Rhapsody, the music player Sansa partners with.

Overall, a very disappointing purchase: I can't use my Sansa Clip for the main purposes I intended.

"great little player"
I love this thing. It is small enough to take anywhere and attach where ever on your clothing. Great for workouts. It is a little difficult the only I have found to arrange music is through media player but really haven't made an effort to try other methods. Good alternative to expensive ipods if all you want is to listen to music.

"Awesome"
My ipod shuffle is going into the drawer, this thing rocks. Best of all no itunes.

"The Little MP3 Player That Could/Can!"
I've had this player for well over a year, and unfortunately have outgrown its memory capacity and am shopping for a new player. BUT- aside from its small memory, it's awesome!
*I've never had a problem with software compatibility on any computer (and never bothered to install the driver/firmware type CD that's included. Everything just works, on my desktop, laptop, friend's computers and at work.
*The radio aspect is nice, and has never had bad reception. I might like it better if it could save stations, though.
*It's small and unobtrusive. I can just slip it in my pocket.
*It has never broken! I'm pretty hard on electronics, and most things I buy (phones, mp3 players, etc) break within the first six months, because I'm not terribly careful and won't ever be. This thing has taken some serious abuse. It's constantly being dropped, stepped on, etc. The only problem it has ever had is that every now and again it will freeze on a screen and need to be rebooted.
*The battery life is excellent. On a heavy week of walking, it will need one charge, but usually, once every month or so will do.
*I like the simplicity of navigation. I do wish it would do a better job of sorting music, though. Depending on the format of the file name, a song might get lost in "Unknown Artist" until I track it down.
*The shuffle works superbly, and I'm not sure if it's chance or some wacky algorithm, but songs tend to flow nicely. Songs seem to transition gently between violin concertos and heavier music, like Boston Hardcore. Probably a coincidence, though.

I absolutely love this player, and I wish it could be expanded. But, its lifetime of use has definitely paid for itself. My husband also has one, that he gets a lot of use out of. The Sansa Clip is a great buy, especially for people who are tough on electronics like the very active, and younger, clumsier people.
