"love it, love it, love it!"

After charging the battery I got the latest firmware upgrade and then put Rockbox 3.6 on it. Will need an expansion disk soon, but right now I'm mostly listening to some self-help mp3's. The cd thing just wasn't working for me. I listen with this on shuffle and repeat all night long several times a week.

I'd listen every night, but the ear buds don't fit in my ears, so I'm using an old pair of ear buds from a Sony Diskman. I have worn a small blister in my left ear. Evidently it is just a little bit smaller than the right ear. I've ordered a set of Acoustibuds earphone adapters. The Sansa's ear buds sound a little bit better than the Sony's, I just can't keep them in my ears.

I never used the Sansa firmware, so I don't know how it compares to Rockbox. From looking at different forums and feedback I just decided to go with Rockbox. If what I read is right it has better sound. All I know is The Doors and the radio stations I listen to sound fantastic!

Got a refurbished v1 and with Rockbox can use any size expansion disk I can afford. I had a bit of room left on my 6gb after putting my self-help mp3's on the E270 so I add The Doors. They never sounded better! I'm glad I have cats. Everyone's a critic. If they were dogs they'd howl while I sing along.

I think it was a great price for a fantastic mp3 player. I can change the battery, expand the memory and with free open source Rockbox I don't know what more I could ask for (oh ya, ear buds that fit). For the price I can't complain that they didn't send along several different size adapters for the ear buds. I just hope I like the ones I've picked out. Just ordered them. The blister isn't turning into a callas. It just hurts. I do use my old fashioned head phones during the day, but they don't have the same sound quality.

I never wanted an mp3 player. Never thought I'd have one, but some personal issues and gigabytes of cd's brought one into my life. I love it and won't be parting with it.

"My Playa"

My new Sansa player is rather easy to use and holds quite a bit of music. The thumb wheel seems to be kind of loose, but I have read other reviews that mention this issue. I purchased a memory card for added disc space, but have been having trouble determining if the player recognizes the added space. The player easily fits in my pocket and doesn' t get in the way when I listen to music. It is much more user friendly than my iPod Nano. I can more readily manipulate files on the Sansa then on the Nano.

"The Sansa e200 player can be a solid value."

This is my second e200 (6G and 8G). Both are Refurbs.

Sansa makes hardware; Software is not their forte. Regardless of the Sansa firmware version, the interface software is poor. Install Rockbox: it's Free, and Much Better.

The proprietary cable is a drawback, but I bought a set of chargers for it (both AC and DC) for under $10 on the web.

Buy a case that will protect the screen (I bought the Belkin F8M047-BLK for under $10 on the web).

Compatible batteries are plentiful on the web. I've seen prices between $8 and $30. Search on SDAMX4RBKG10 or e200 battery. Amp hour ratings may vary (650 to 750 mAh).

"6 gig mp3 player with a good deal of features"

I like this mp3 player, but since I have a crap ton with me at the moment, it's actually taken a backseat til I get home.

pros:
1) 6 gigs, screen capable of pictures mp3 and video
2) sd slot is a nice addition for music oversaturated people
3) at 40 bucks, even refurbished, it is a steal

cons:
1) clunkier than just about every other mp3 player I ever owned, which doesn't make it very versatile in my case.
2) doesn't necessarily deliver anymore features for the size (it's not that big, but for some reason I've always tended to buy small mp3 players)
3) it's not as asthetically pleasing, but I guess that's just being nitpicky

"Sansa e270"

This is a great mp3 player FOR THE PRICE. Keyword: FOR THE PRICE. It works fine, and is very fun to use (the turn wheel is addicting). It is not an iPod, and you should not think that it is one. It is very compact, and has a pretty good battery life. The audio when you are watching videos lags and the videos and pictures take a very long time to encode. It also is compatible (but harder to use) on a Mac. It does not work with iTunes or iPhoto. This is great for listening to music and is simple to use.

"a different player"

Why different? First, the most important: the sound. I never used the delivered ear-buds. I have two very different headphones. A Koss Porta pro, and a studio monitor from Sony. On the last one, most Mp 3 players will sound aggressive, because it is very neutral and does not "add" anything. Not this player! it will sound warm, but very analogue, and not so "boosted" as my sony player. High tones, are not forward, but refined. Sound-stage is impressive on the view!!! And with the combination with the MDR V 6, very musical as playing on a "high end" stereo device. I do tweak a bit the equaliser some times, but that is why it there in the first place.

You never have the impression of listening to compressed music, but of course that doesn't mean it is "neutral". On the Koss-headphone, it becomes a bit too warm and there is a lack of high tones. So this player will be dull on many headphones that are less transparent then the Sony.

Had some problem with the firmware in the beginning, but later everything fine. I can't hardly use it any more though. The hole to insert the headphones in, has a bad contact, and there is nothing to do about it! Must say that the sony headphone has a heavy plug......

"It was great until 2 days ago"

The Sansa View I bought exceeded my expectations in features and ability to manipulate songs, etc.

BUT...Two days ago, for no apparent reason the center wheel you use to toggle through features and adjust volume has become hard to turn. When I first got this MP3 player a couple of weeks ago, the wheel was perfectly fluid and easy to operate. You could easily go from one song to the next and adjust volume at will. Now when I go to adjust the volume, it's so hard that I have to press harder than I should on it and it inadvertently presses a button that takes me to another feature I didn't want.Is anyone else having the same problem with this player and where do I go to get it fixed or have the player replaced??

"Sansa 16G View"

This is my first MP3 player and I am very impressed with this product. It is easy to set up and use, loading music was a breeze. The main reasons that I chose the Sansa View were cost, storage and the FM radio feature. This unit has outstanding sound and the FM radio reception is very impressive for such a small device. I will probably never use the video or photo features but, it is nice to have them in case I ever change my mind. I rate it a 10 and you can dance to it.

"GREAT! FOR THE PRICE!"

This is a simple easy to use mp3 player. The sound quality is excellent. My 16 year old nephew was jealous when he heard the my surround sound quality compared to his mp3. He asked if I would purchase this for him as well. Of course I said NO! But this is really a good product for child or adult who is hard on those sensitive touch screens. I give it a thumbs up!

There's not much I can say about this player.I do have experience with Coby.
This was bought as a gift for a little girl, It's not so sophistocated that she can't figure it out. For the money it really is a great deal. It doesn't have a huge amount of memory but, for a kid it should be great.
Only this that would have made it better would have been expandable memory.

its pretty hard to go to the menu sometimes. but when you get use to it, its better. its easy to use. because there arent many buttons to press. i love it. its more of a kid mp3 player. its pretty smaller than it looks like on the picture. its screen is ok. but when it comes to choosing a song, the letters are kinda small.
the sound is great. you can record stuff and the radio is for everyone. its good

"Excellent choice for audio books"

I use the product for audio books. After I broke the first one (my fault), I immediatly purchased another. It is very good about remembering where you were in a book and resuming from that point. My only criticism is that it uses a specialized USB cable rather than a standard mini -- but I have 2 cables now.

"Good MP3 Player"

I already own a Sansa c250 v1, but bought another one so I could have a spare data cable and battery, etc., but I didn't know if this one would be a v1 or v2. I really didn't care which one it was, but it turned out to be a v1, so I'll be able to loadup RockBox on it as well, so now basically I have two Sansa c250 (v1), so that's kinda cool.

First thing, the one I just received had three scratches diagonally on the screen. The SanDisk logo on the back is severely rubbed off. I thought this was a new product, but anyway I really don't care, cause as I said before I only needed it for spare parts. But had it been my only one I'd most likely would be a bit unhappy about it, the price is not relevant when it comes down to the condition of the product. Had the seller stated it was used or refurbished, I'd be okay with it, but supposedly it was new, so I expected it too look it.

But the player itself is to my liking, I've had my first one since mid-2008, and I like it and it still work great. I installed RockBox on it and it's even better. I have 8gb mini card (which it now recognizes w/RockBox installed). It is a low profile player, nothing flashy, except if you get a color version. Otherwise it's kind of the workman's version of an MP3 player and just does its work. Earbud is cheap and easily falls out, you'll want better.

Price is good. Battery is okay, not great. Sound is good.

Final Thought: When buying new MP3 player, you should always consider whether the player supports RockBox or other open source software, open source tend to have better continues support for updates and patches, so it's worth the time to stick with ones that support it and also you'll be cool with the geeks, I mean come on, playing DOOM on this thing, is absolutely unnecessary, and a waste of time, but way awesome because you can!

"This portable player plays MP3 cd files!!!!!"

I really like this player because I am now able to listen to the MP3 files I bought online from an old time radio website. I can now hear Little Orphan Annie which has like fifty odd episodes on one cd. I am able to pick up where I left off the last time I listened. I don't have to start over from the very beginning as some people complain about. The instructions are very clear and if you read them you won't have a problem. I only wish I had an AC adapter as they suggest you use one while listening at home so not to wear out the battery. What is also cool about this player is that you can use rechargeable batteries and the player will recharge the batteries for you when you flip a certain button. How cool is that?
Very cool! : ) By the way [...] has loads of old time radio shows and broadcasts if you are curious.

All in all a good value of form and function. Only two digs... 1) the lack of an AC charger in the box (you'll need to go the rechagreable battery route otherwise) 2) the display screen is very small, making some of the indicators so small that it is hard to clearly see them if your are not in perfect lighting.

"Decent purchase"

Sound quality is marginal at best. Radio is not always clear indoors. Both of these qualities are not the sellers fault however. Great purchase for a decent product.

"Best bargain MP3 player PERIOD"

Other competing players are $100-$200. This has great sound quality, a nice screen and lets not forget INCREDIBLE battery life. 15 minutes of charge I'll spend hours at the gym. The expansion card slot for a micro SD gives you a great opportunity to fit more media (music movies ect.) and its even got radio. Mine has lasted through mountain biking, running in the rain, the gym, drops, mud all sorts of things you may or may not put your MP3 player through. My buddy just recently broke the screen but the player still works! It actually took a lot to even break the screen so Id say its durable. Mine lasted 2-3 years and it was approximately 120 for the 16GB when it came out I believe. Talk about a great product.

Con: Freezing. Probably every other time I use it I would experience slow reaction just as other users posted. You try to change the song and the screen is locked and wont move but the tunes keep going. If im really impatient ill turn it off and power it back up, takes little time. Just a minor inconvenience.

Bottom Line: I used to work retail and the number of expensive IPODS I would see come in was REDICULOUS. My Scan disk player lasted almost 3 and would have gone longer had someone physically not smashed it. IPODS are smooth in operation, spiffy looking and can hold alot of media granted.. But there methods of loading media is proprietary (Itunes) and I have seen a high turn around percentage with their units.

This is EASILY the best $50-$60 unit you can buy hands down.

The Altec Lansing im310 is a good machine. It is not going to sound like a high end stereo system, but for the money it puts out good sound, is easy to operate, and is worth buying. I read a lot of reviews before buying and all those who said good things about it were right on.

Although the sound doesn't compare to a home stereo, the price doesn't either. That being said, the sound is perfect for a smaller area, (I use mine with an inverter in my delivery truck) the sound is fine and clear, about what you would expect for a lower priced boom box. It plays and charges my I-Pod classic as I use it. If I had to purchase another, I would really consider getting another Altec Lansing iM310

"You Get What You Pay For (and a little more)"

I wanted a little pair of speakers that I could use throughout my apartment while cleaning or doing chores without blasting my other speakers that have a subwoofer and tons of bass. These little speakers do the job. For $2, I must admit I wasn't expecting much, yet I am very pleased with them. These speakers are quite loud for their size and are lightweight and portable. I can't imagine what anyone else could want for the price. And, as an added bonus, this little pair of speakers will help me live peacably with my neighbors and keep them from banging a whole through the wall.

"Cheap but works quite well."

Just as expected no maybe better....didn't expect much and got more than expectations. Fuze works fine on it though upside down as some people complain about it. We will take it along camping and maybe just setting outside on patio. We aren't quite into the tiny MP3 players as the younger generations. But getting there sort of. We don't walk around with it stuck in our ear via earphones but do find it interesting to take along on our long car rides to town as in 180 miles round trip. Our rural neck of the woods has no radio reception most of the time either. So have car system that plays through car radio. That works ok but not great too. This little tyke speaker system is so cute and so cheap and we'll use it now and again but not a lot of the time. Sound is not great but not bad by any means. (At our ages maybe it's our hearing that's not so great:))) Works for us though and that's the bottom line and wasn't over priced from this seller. However you can pay more for it here on Amazon if you like and it's the same exact item so shop and compare then come back here and pick it up.

"It works great"

I had to remove the ear fixation things but after that it worked great.
It takes some getting used to but this is so far the best thing I have tried!

"So happy to have good tunes underwater!"

Didn't like how clunky the other types looked, so I gave this one a try. I removed the plastic piece that goes over the ears after the first swim, and they worked so much better after that! Just put in the earpieces right and they stay in fine. I haven't done flipturns or freestyle yet after a month's use, so I'll have to update this review later on. Music quality is no Bose, but definitely loud and clear! Battery is still on first charge after 5+ 30 min. swims.

"I LOVE my Speedo Aquabeat!"

My Aquabeat arrived in the mail on Friday. I am not particularly computer savvy, but I was easily able to convert my iTunes music to MP3 format and load songs onto the Aquabeat. I hadn't been in the pool for a year... (I did the Alcatraz swim in September 2008)... I just couldn't bear the thought of doing those laps anymore. I swam for 45 minutes on both Saturday and Sunday mornings and I CAN'T WAIT to swim again! I LOVE MY SPEEDO AQUABEAT!

"overpriced gimmick"

you are basically buying a below average quality mp3 player and headphones for triple the normal price, simply because they added a few rubber gaskets that do a fair job of protecting the headphone connection and speakers. setup and operation are pretty simple and intuitive. the unit is larger than necessary presumable so it can float and be controlled without having to look at it. at least it works while lap swimming and is bare able to wear for brief 30-60min durations - but only time will tell if moisture actually ruins it prematurely.

This is such a great product and I was amazed by how good the sound is. Everyone knows how boring lap swimming is--nothing to see, nothing to hear. But boy have my workouts now changed with this mp3 player! I would totally recommend this (and have) to every swimmer I know!

I'm 17 and recently bought the 8gb mp3 player. Oh my god, it's amazing. I opened up the package and there wasn't a bunch of papers that were confusing. Everything was simple and to the point. I turned it on and it already had a semi-charged battery. I played around with it without reading the instructions, and it's super user friendly. I plugged it into my computer and didn't even use the software to put music onto it, I just did the drag and drop method. It took about an hour to get all my music loaded onto it. I unplugged it and I swear, the battery was entirely charged. I listened to my mp3 player from noon until midnight, and it was still pretty much all the way charged. I've been able to fit all the music I want on it, and not have to pick and choose favorites.

For the screen protection I got some old cell phone screen protectors and stuck one to the screen. It worked just fine. I decided that I didn't really like it just going into my purse without some kind of protection, so I made a duct tape holder. Kind of like a duct tape wallet. It works just fine in protecting it. I will probably be buying one of the actual skins to go with it, but for now the duct tape holder is working perfectly.

"Sharp picture, little package"

Bought this model to replace an older model portable DVD player. Great picture, much lighter weight and longer battery life than my old model. Took it on a car trip. I bought this portable DVD for the purpose of entertaining my small children on road trips, it serves the purpose perfectly! Easy enough for my 7 year old to operate while I drive, large enough for both girls to see, and loud enough for both girls to hear without headphones. Does not skip and I have not had any problems with it. I purchased a DvdDr 70200 00 Portable DVD Player Car Mount to go along with it, it installs in seconds and can be taken down just as easily to place under the seat during stops. I highly recommend this product.

This is an amazing little and inexpensive dvd player but my unit only lasted 7 months and was used very little beware.I wouldnt buy this unit for children as it is cheaply made and could damage it easily.Im hoping the company will replace my unit as it is not even one year old.Otherwise it was a great travel dvd player while it lasted.

"Very nice CD player"

I purchased this CD player so I could listen to MP3s. This player has Sony quality! The battery life is very good. I listen to audio books while at work, usually three hours at a time with no battery loss. The controls are a bit tricky when using MP3's so read the instructions carefully. After you master the functions, the player is a joy. Sound quality is perfect for both speaking MP3's and music CD's. I carry the player on my belt so it gets bumped around while I am working. Still, there are no skips in the audio. Totally worth the price.

"Basically great"

I've been looking at the SwimP3 for a few years now and finally went for it when they increased the capacity to 1 gig. I've only used it a few times but I'm generally very happy. I had been using a snorkel with a radio built in but this is definitely better. Bone induction is WAY better than any kind of ear-bud based system and I've tried a few. It's a little hard to fit on the strap of my swim mask along with my snorkel but I think I'll work that out OK. The main thing I'd like to see different is that there's no volume control and it seems to play a little soft for my taste. other than that, the sound quality is pretty good, nice and clear. I'm still getting used to the controls so I'll reserve judgment on that for now. I do tend to prefer bigger buttons but I bet I get the feel of it. I mostly just put it on shuffle and do my thing anyway. As soon as I can reliably hit the Next button when I don't happen to be in the mood for the song of the moment, I'll be fine. I'm definitely glad I got it. Of course, there's no substitute for more music capacity!!

"Grows on you"

Enjoy swimming but can get boring so when I learned there were some options to listen to music had to try. Did a bit of research and went with Swimp3. Arrived, loaded songs, (can only have one folder) really easy and headed to pool. The sound was awful. NO bass, volume low. I used ear plugs as recommended. As I spent $160 on it thought I'd give it another shot..well after a while you get used to the less than stellar sound and its okay. I can hear the music and it stays put while swimming. I don't do flip turns so not sure how that would go. I use shuffle function that works okay, as other MP3 players, the player does seems to like a certain songs, but it's okay. I really want to try a traditional ear bud style but these will do for now. Packaging and advertisement use the work "high fidelity", total BS and company should be sued for false advertising. Freakin kicks a$$ listening to Pearl Jam while swimming. I'm convinced there are many reviews on this product generated by folks at Swimp3. Unless they are verified purchasers don't buy thier speil. Did quick scan and those that actually purchase give lower scores than those that just added their opinion. Also if they say it sounds amazing either they're lying or have very low standards on sound quality.

"Helps pass the time"

These work great--I use them without ear plugs since the plugs make my ears feel weird. However, I can easily hear the sound, and the quality is great! I was nervous about purchasing these but they have turned out to be a great help in breaking up the monotony of swimming laps.

"Way better then I expected!!"

Everything works like it says. I have over 300 songs on it and two movies on it and they all play fine. The battery life is very good. I get about 5 hours of continuous play back of music. The converter software is extremely easy to use (If you need it). There are about 8 different back grounds to choose from (Not the blue main menu. It can not be changed). Some people said that the headphones were bad but I find them extremely acceptable. Even though I don't use them they are still the best free headphones Ive ever received. I really didn't like the stylus it came with. I don't have big hands but a less then 1 inch stylus is still bad(Its about a 1/3 inch). So I just use one of my extra Nintendo DS stylus's. It came 2 days early to, so that's good. Over all im very happy. If your even on this page looking at this then you should get it hands down. And if your still reading this then you should double get it. I will put a video review up later on here and youtube.

"Absolutely met my expectations!!"

I was searching for an MP3 without the complexities as the apple ipod. The only issue I have is that I don't like the earphones provided and I would like to get a case for it, if anyone has any suggestions please advise. Otherwise, I'm very happy with my buy. I've dowloaded music very easy and overall everything is what I expected in an MP3 easy to use, sound system is great and pictures on videos are better than Apple's ipod, i can actually see them. Is just what I wanted for the price I can't go wrong!! I highly recommend it.

This is a great mp3 player!I wanted one that was in my budget with a touchscreen that looked good and maybe could also perform functions other than just playing music. I couldn't believe I found this, because it matches what I wanted perfectly. It came with everything it says it does. The earphones are horrible though. I strongly suggest you buy your own, as those are clearly meant to be some sort of back-up and not the main earphones. The sound quality is excellent with different earphones. The manual could be better, too. It is a little confusing. I had a problem with viewing the videos I uploaded, so I contacted customer service. Their response was very fast and completely resolved the problem. The touchscreen is good. It responds well to light taps. Even though it is not needed, I love using their built-in stylus. Just as a warning, there is no scroll option. You have to use the up-and-down arrows to look through a list.
I got this with free shipping, which was convinient and fast. I recommend this to anyone who wants a great-quality mp3 player for an amazingly affordable price.

"Awesome Player"

Just got it as a gift from my boys. This is by far the most attractive piece of electronics I have ever own. Don't take me wrong. I have had several mp3 players made by name brands. This one has all stainless steel expensive looking without the expensive price tag. The craftsmanship is precise and sharp, which is often lacking in second tier brands. It plays many different media formats. I have thrown on several youtube videos and family videos from our recent tour. They all played seamlessly. Music playback is nothing special. It does sort music files by different ways (artists, album, etc). Photo viewer is nice on the large screen. I especially like the radio function, which I use very frequently.
Overall, I found this item to be very competitive in both quality and functionality. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for an incredibly inexpensive media player with exceptional quality.

"Money Well Spent"

I had a hard time deciding between 4 and 5 stars on this one. It's not perfect, but it's a lot of player for the $50. I bought it specifically to play music in the car, and it works very well. But it's a little complicated to operate while driving. It's about like texting. LOL

I've had it for a couple of weeks and all the features work as they should. Oh, and it arrived in the amount of time they said it would.

I don't know how long a charge on the batteries will last, but I've played it for more than 2 hours in the car and it was still going strong.

I didn't expect much for 50 bucks, and was pleasantly surprised.

"Zen MX"

"Great Player !"

I'm not sure why someone wouldn't like this series of players. Great design, excellent appearance, and some neat features. FM Radio, voice recorder, alarm, extra storage via the SD slot...oh and it plays music very well. I have a lot of custom mixes, so loading the music to the player in the "Imported Files" section allows you to keep the file structure intact, and that is key. Otherwise, music is grouped by genre, band, etc. Have used the device while exercising and it never missed a beat. Pictures look great, although I could not get MPEG videos to show up. Still working on that one. A very good player for $80.

"If you're looking for sound quality only, this is not for you."

I bought this unit after reading dozens of reviews on MP3 players. My decision came down to this unit, the Sansa Fuze, the iPod Nano, The Zune HD, or the Sony X-Series Walkman. Price was not so much the determining factor as overall sound quality was. I was excited about the X-Fi ability the unit touts. Another reviewer said that it didn't make the music sound "better," just "different." I disagree. Enabling the X-Fi tech actually degraded the sound for me. I found it more enjoying to listen to with X-Fi off, and the custom EQ enables. Still, there never was a moment where I was "Wowed." As far as the other bells and whistles, they did not interest me. I only care about the MP3 player aspect. I wound up returning this unit and went with the Fuze. If that one doesn't work out I'm getting the Zune.

Overall...I may have had a bad unit, but I was not happy with it regardless.

"Is the old firmware available?"

Professional reviewers disliked the operation of the memory card on the original Zen so changes were made. I liked the way the original worked except for not being able to delete files. Also, I do not store music on my player, I store audio files.
MP3 is not music, it is audio.
The audio is excellent. The player is compact and sturdy.
Great for the price.
Please have an option of original memory card operation.

"Creative's Customer Service is HORRIBLE"

I have purchased two Creative Zens now and I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER ONE.
Their customer service department is the most frustrating experience ever. They jerk you around for days with emails asking for information you've already given, telling you to try stuff you've already explained that you tried and in the end they tell you "tough luck we can't help you - go buy another one!"
What a joke!! Horrible, horrible experience. Products don't last a day beyond their flimsy warranty.

I am very happy with this mp3 player. No problems. Great sound, easy to see screen. I was a bit disappointed that the play lists actually used up memory on the player itself. I think the Zen-Fi is a great product. A really like that it has a speaker. I don't care to much for the buttons which take a little while to learn the functions. Overall:

Background: I have used the following mp3 players prior to purchasing the Creative Zen X-Fi: Sandisk Sansa M-230, SanDisk Sansa Clip 2 GB MP3 Player (Black), Apple iPod shuffle 1 GB Silver (2nd Generation) OLD MODEL , and SanDisk Sansa Fuze 4 GB Video MP3 Player (Black) (I have used product links for the ones that I have also reviewed).

Setup: Following the quick start guide, I installed the software from the mini-CD which included Creative Central, Creative Zen X-Fi Video Converter, and Audible Manager (for audio books). The installation prompts you to register the software and your player after connecting the player. The screen asked for the serial number but didn't give any instructions where to find it. There are a lot of numbers on the device, and I guessed at one. The screen took it, so I assumed it was correct. However when I went to register for chat service, I found that this number was invalid. Still without guidance, I rotated the package around until I found yet another number with S/N next to it on the side of the packaging. It shouldn't be this hard, but at least you only have to do it once. Finally, I setup wireless networking, and I was glad that this is also something that you only have to do once. I have a 128 WEP encrypted network with a hidden SSID. I had to key in both my SSID and the 26 character hex network key in order to connect. The interface for doing this on the X-Fi is similar to a standard cellphone, and it is brutal. Creative should add network setup as a feature from within Creative Central to give a better user experience.

Music Transfer: After leaving the device to charge, I came back to transfer music using Creative Central. I have used Windows Media Player and iTunes in the past, but this software isn't too hard to learn. The help screen gives instructions for how to transfer music that are easy to follow. I selected music album by album from the artist view and used the "Transfer" menu to queue them up for transfer. I liked that you can add items (at the artist, album, or song level) to a transfer queue rather than having to drag and drop to a sync list. However my favorite feature on this is the ability to rip a CD to your computer and transfer to the X-Fi in one command. The only knock I have on Creative Central is that it will not allow the same song by the same artist to be transferred to the player from multiple CDs. This seems like an odd limitation because it is unreasonable to expect a live version of a song to have a different name. This is a minor nit that can be worked around, but I thought it worth mentioning.

Video Transfer: All of my videos of interest are from Amazon, and I was pleased that I was able to transfer these to my X-Fi using the Amazon Unbox software. Unbox was able to detect the X-Fi, and it was a simple matter of clicking the transfer button after downloading the portable version of the videos to my computer. I don't anticipate making heavy use of this, but it was nice for it to be so easy.

Audiobook Transfer: Audible (the online audio book download site) supports the X-Fi directly from their software. I was able to easily select The Unabridged Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and transfer both part I and II to my X-Fi with no problem.

Music Playback: I am not what anyone would consider an audiophile, but I am flat out impressed with the music playback on the X-Fi. I listened to the demo on Creative's site, and it piqued my interest in trying out this feature. The difference is subtle in some instances, but it is much more obvious in others. A perfect example is on the lead track from Guns 'N Roses Chinese Democracy. I had always thought that this song had a long, dull opening; however, that's because I wasn't hearing all that was there. There is a Chinese dialog that I had never heard before. Chinese Democracy is a great album for demonstrating the difference that X-Fi makes because there is a lot of variety in instrumentation.

Video Playback: Video playback is very good. I watched the pilot episode of Community that I got from Amazon's video on demand service. The video transferred over from Unbox was not exactly the right size for the X-Fi screen, and it was like watching a letterbox version of a movie on an old narrow screen TV. This probably took 10-15% of the real estate, but I was able to see the picture well enough. I consider video transfer a nice to have, and I do not expect to make heavy use of this. One final thing of note is that the videos from Amazon cannot be processed by Creative Central or Creative Zen X-Fi Video Converter due to copy protection.

Navigation: One of the features that I really like on my Sansa Fuze was the navigation wheel, and I wondered what it would be like switching to the X-Fi that is button based. It would have been awful with 16 Gb of media, but Creative added a nice feature for navigation. If you press the left button, it takes you over to the alphabet, and you can skip to the beginning of each letter within the artist, album, or other menu.

In the Music menu, I like the "DJ" feature. It has an "Album of the Day" option that will choose something from your collection to play. I use this from time to time if I don't have something specific in mind when I turn the player on. There are some additional features of the "DJ", but you need to build up a usage pattern for them to be meaningful.

Wireless Functionality: I enabled the Creative Media Server on my computer. I used this to stream a CD that was on my computer that I had not transferred to my X-Fi. While sound quality was good, this was (as you might expect) quite a drain on the battery. A 35 minute album took about one third of the battery level.

As for the chat functionality, I cannot imagine anyone making use of this. As mentioned in the setup, the interface for entering text is like a cellphone, but there is no T-9 or Word option for easing data entry. Sending more than one or two words would make me pull my hair out.

Conclusion: The Creative Zen X-Fi is a feature packed mp3 player with great sound quality and a great display. It is easy to setup and use. You may wonder why you should choose this player over the non-wireless 8 Gb player. Here are the keys that set this apart for the price difference: an additional 8 Gb of storage and upgraded earbuds. If you consider the earbuds alone, their price is greater than the price difference in the 8 Gb player and the 16 Gb. "The so -so player"

It is a pretty good player. The only problems I had were that it isn't compatible with my computer. Also, after I downloaded the user manual, I wasn't able to open the file. Sorry to say, it I had to return it. I also didn't like that the control buttons were so sensitive that I was always accidentally pushing one of them and then having to go back and put it back the way it was. I would recommend it to anyone who has an updated or newer computer.

"Getting used to it, it works well enough for my needs."

This is most certainly not the easiest player to deal with. When I have a little more time, I do intend to see if I can change some of the settings - but it's default is kind of annoying in some regards.

To explain, I bought this player for use with audiobooks only. I own a Cowon D2+ 8 GB MP3 Player (Black), with it's remarkably great sound and decided that I wanted to use it for music only. While the D2+ has a SDHC expansion slot, it doesn't work very well with a card in - at least not a micro SDHC in an adapter. While I don't need more than 3gb or so for audiobooks (I have a lot, but needn't change them that often), I do want at least 8gb for my music - I actually wanted to use about half of a 8gb card as well. So I decided that $30 dollars wasn't bad at all, for a devoted audiobook player. But keep in mind that audiobooks are the only thing I bought it for.

Pros -
1) The Mozaic has multiple book marking, handy because I listen to multiple books (I'm a student, don't watch tee vee and reading gets rough after a long day of studying)
2) It is just the right size - not small enough to lose, not too big and very light weight.
3) I run it for about two hours a day on average - it ran for roughly six hours before it went down a single bar on the battery indicator.
4) It was easy to find a cheaper after-market skin with strap for it.

Cons -
1) It is not very intuitive. The user interface is confusing and hard to navigate.
2) The volume could manage a little more sound, but for most books it hasn't been a problem.
3) The bookmarks are really irritating, because they take whatever track you are on out of the loop of teh rest of the book. This means that when you finish the track you had bookmarked, it doesn't just go on to the next.
4) The Creative case accessories cost nearly as much as the player.
5) If you don't shut the player down while it is playing, it won't just start up where you left off.

All in all, I am satisfied with my $30 MP3 player purchase. It is a pain in the ass in some ways, but you really can't easily beat $30. The next best priced MP3 player that I have used for audiobooks was the SanDisk Sansa Clip+ 8 GB MP3 Player (Black). The biggest problem with this player was the problem that the Sansa Fuze seems to have with audiobooks - when playing audiobooks, they will occasionally shut down for no apparent reason. The clip is also smaller in size, with less battery capacity. Given the choice, I would totally buy this again - the controls aren't as easy as the clip, but the constant shut down is a drag.

"zen"

I can't open Creative CEntrale and do anything on my computer. I can't load to my laptop because there is no disc drive. I wish there was a speed to listen to books faster. I have two ZEN's I like the way the older model turns on (that's the one I just purchased)

"no overdrive support"

I am very dissapointed that creative screwed up this player by not supporting DRM. I have used all my creative players for the overdrive console for audio books from the library. I cant' believe they took it out of this player - I could not tell it from the description. The overdrive console does not even see this player as a device .

"Great player for audiobooks"

My Zen died last week. I don't use an MP3 player for music, rather I use it for audiobooks, both purchased and check out from Netlibrary. I decided I wanted to stay with Creative Zen because it is easy for me to use and it is compatible with the book systems I use(audible, [...], netlibrary, etc)

I was unsure if I would like this player as it is so much smaller than my old Zen and I wondered if a player this cheap would be worth it. I am happy to say this player fits all my needs, and at an incredibly reasonable price.

If you want an IPOD like device, this isn't for you
If you want all the bells and whistles, this isn't for you

If you want an easy to navigate mp3 player that will play music and audiobooks and you don't have alot of money to spend, then this player IS for you.

This would be a good choice for a child's first mp3 player, or for someone who just wants an easy to use, basic player.

"High Power Transmitter"

This FM transmitter was purchased for the drive from Omaha, NE to Orlando, FL. I think I had to change the station twice due to static build-up. I have owned many FM transmitters in the past, and I was leery of buying another one since they usually don't work very well. I was swayed by the good reviews for this product, and I have not been disappointed! No, it's not CD quality sound but it's pretty close. The transmitter overpowers local radio stations, even. My only complaint is that, in order to change the frequency on the transmitter, I have to use the remote. Not a big deal, in any case.

If someone is looking for a way to play their MP3 player in their car and it is impractical or costly to get an MP3 port added to the car stereo, I strongly recommend this product as a solution. For those looking for their specific car, it fits just fine in a 2004 F150 in the passenger seat 12V outlet. You may want to get an extension cord, however, so that your MP3 player can sit in the cupholder or in a compartment somewhere. The one that comes with the transmitter is quite short. I've used it for about a month now and about 50 hours of play time. It just works. If I find it to have good longevity, this'll be the perfect FM transmitter!

"Good For Music, Not Good for Long Audio Files"

This item will work well if you will be using it for music or short audio files. Unfortunately the reason I purchased it was to listen to long (40+ minutes) audio files. The bookmarking features does not work well with long audio files. Many times the bookmarking feature did not save the location I bookmarked and it was very difficult to fast forward to the location.

I really hoped the bookmarking feature would have worked correctly for me. I can't find another type of unit like this where the bookmarking feature works correctly.

"Outstanding product"

I listen to audio books during my daily commute. The costs of CDs gets a little expensive. I considered purchasing an FM transmitter and originally got one for $20. It did not work well and I had almost given up on the idea. I decided after reading the reviews at Amazon to try the SoundFly. Wow, what a difference. The fast forward feature is very useful. I haven't quite gotten the hang of the bookmark feature but I have a feeling that I will use it often. Decent signal and you can adjust the base and treble of the device. The fact that you can pre-program the stations is very helpful especially if you travel through different cities. I use the SD chip to load up my audio books and it works like a charm. I have used the audio link to my laptop and the thumbdrive. Each works just as well.

The one caveat that seems to be a standard issue for these fm transmitters. That is the ordering of the songs/audio book chapters. When you copy from Microsoft in bulk, it does not copy in order. This problem is especially painful when you are dealing with audio books. Near as I can tell, the Soundfly plays the files in 'date modified' order. So when Microsoft copies the fifth song first, it plays the fifth song first. I found a utility called 'reorganize' which does a great job in copying the files in the proper sequence and eliminates this problem.

"Best FM transmitter I've tried or heard of, hands down."

I tried a transmitter, it didn't work at all. Tried another one, it worked for awhile, mysteriously quit. I tried the Satechi and finally, something that worked. No, the sound quality is not perfect, and I didn't expect that. For what it is, it's great. Play with the sound a bit (bass, treble, and volume) on both the transmitter and your stereo. This really helped minimize buzzing and get the best quality possible.

"A great and affordable mp3 player"

I have owned the Sandisk E250 mp3 player for almost 1 year. This is my 3rd mp3 device: #1 was a Sandisk Sansa m250 which still works ($50 refurbished), #2 was a Toshiba Gigabeat 40GB ($140 new) that died within a few months of purchase and caused me many headaches. I did a lot of research on Amazon with reviews and specifications before deciding on this. I wanted something reliable, of great quality, and easy to sync songs. My biggest problem was finding something affordable since most mp3 players with these features are Ipods and I didn't want a computer, I wanted a song device. I finally purchased this for around $38. I later received a $5/5-song music credit from Amazon and was able to download 5 free songs. It was very simple to redeem since I already had an Amazon account.

I purchased a wall charger for this separately for $5 from an Amazon seller b/c I didn't want to rely on the usb charger only. That was one of my biggest concerns about this particular device but the wall charger has worked flawlessly as an alternative. The charge lasts for maybe 15-20 hrs each time.

It's very easy to sync songs to this device. I've had issues with the Toshiba Gigabeat and a lot of other devices are very temperamental on this as well. I am a Windows Media Player person (b/c it's easy) so I am thrilled that all I have to do is select the songs, add them to my sync list, and hit "Sync list." You have to have at least WMP version 10 which is free to upgrade to. This device also comes with its own sync software. I do use the software to transfer pictures though there may be another way. I'm not fond of this software b/c it's not particularly user friendly but there's nothing specifically negative about it either. I think you can also drag and drop files from your computer right into the device location folder.

This holds up to 500 songs but that decreases as you add pictures and video. It is also capable of receiving local radio stations and voice recordings. I have some photos stored on there for fun and they're easy to access but I mostly keep songs on there. I currently have over 275 songs and 20+ pictures stored and the device has a quick response.

Aside from using this on the go, I regularly plug it into my car stereo and my elliptical machine b/c both have mp3 ports. The mp3 player itself came with a special cord that plugs into the device and any mp3 ready machine so this was a huge perk.

It has a go list function, a favorites functions, random, repeat, etc. I think it may even have some sort of genius random function because I constantly have it on random and it seems to play similar genre songs together. The rotating wheel can be a bit tricky because it is so fast. It can take a little time getting used to maneuvering your way around the device b/c it's setup as 4 main menus: video, photo, music, and radio/voice? Each main menu has a subset and your listed files. The back feature can be a pain b/c it goes all the way back to a main menu rather than your previous folder/location but it's nothing worth changing my overall opinion on this device.

I've had no problems with this device and I couldn't be more impressed with it. My money was definitely well spent. I recommend for anyone who wants an Ipod alternative and a great bargain.

The rocket has more features I want, but it is very easy to use and very easy to ignore the unnecessary features. , When you see the device, connect the USB cable for charging. Once loaded, go into the settings menu and change the mode of MSC. This makes the Fuze act like a normal flash drive, works with any operating system that supports USB. Then the shape of the device. SanDisk includes samples of music that was installed in MTP mode. Two modes are not compatible, the space so that the player will lose if you keep the music sample.

Then go to SanDisk website. They will have a *. bin available, so you can flash the firmware to the latest version of Fuze. Just copy the files from any file manager. The update, but does not work on my operating system. Now you have a player that supports OGG and FLAC audio, and all the usual. This means working Librivox Project Gutenberg, books and audio, so it's hard to find classics are easy to obtain. And if you're an audiophile, you can use FLAC for better sound quality. There is enough space to accommodate at least 4 hours of MP3 audio books and short.

EDIT: I've picked up a set of cheap IEMs (jvc air cushions, about 80-90% as good as the high end IEMs I've used, at 1/10 the price). The sound is now very clear, with no hiss. Sometimes a good audio chip will have software that adds hiss, but the Fuze is free of this problem. The whole setup will easily fit into a jeans pocket, even if you're a curvy female who likes a close fit.

The display is not visible on a sunny day in direct sun on the lowest brightness setting. Tilting it slightly solves that. The clock is visible even when the unit is locked.

The radio sounded quite clear in my few minutes of playing with it... it's definitely a useless feature for me.

The delete option is a little confusing. I haven't found a way to delete a song unless it is playing. I'm used to doing the odd cleanup on my player to get rid of songs I'm tired of, and I can't find a way to do that without a computer. Very minor annoyance.

Sandisk Sansa Fuze - My first MP3 Player

I'm really not much people put music and MP3 player, until last summer. My last portable music player is the Walkman, so patient with me. I was really impressed with this mp3 player and I thought it was definitely a great buy (especially compared with Apple products). I also like that I can drag MP3 files from your computer without having to use a particular model or a program for organizing your MP3 files. It 'very easy to just drag the folder (music mostly) and I was good to go. Given the recognized as an MP3 player and let me just open the files. A program to organize music that accompanies it, but I ignore that for now.

I did drag a couple of stories and put them in the Audiobook folder, as well as a few podcasts which have their own folder as well.

I honestly didn't listen to it a ton, but I was impressed with the battery life, and I didn't have to use my USB power adapter that I picked up just in case I needed to recharge on my trip.

You can also use a Micro SD card for more storage, but I haven't tried that out yet since 2 GB is plenty enough for me. I haven't tried out the video option, but that may encourage the use of a card.

It is a very sleek looking device that is simple to use, holds plenty of music, simple interface, seems to have a good battery life, very compact at a great price. I highly recommend.

"Fuze mp3"

I love this little mp3. It gets am/ fm and holds all the songs I need. It has not given me a lick of a problem in the year I've owned it.

Small and works great. Good battery life so far. Only issue is don't leave it on top of your computer. We have one that keeps getting a white screen and the only thing we can attribute it to is laying it on the cpu for hours while it charged. Have to reboot it often to bring the screen back and figure it will stop working soon.

"Great, Inexpensive MP3 Player"

I bought this player one month ago, and I have been using it daily. I love the small size which makes it easy to put in my pocket. It comes with a nice little pouch to put over it. This is great for keeping the screen from getting scratched by keys or other things in my pocket. My daughter got a iPod Nano for Christmas, and I was impressed with the ease of use, so I decided to look for a used one (very expensive). I decided to go with the Sansa Fuze instead, and I have not been disappointed. I especially like that it has a separate menu for podcasts. I am a mail carrier, and most of us get tired of listening to music all day. The sound quality sounds just as good to me on my Sansa as her iPod. The cost was very reasonable, and I like that I can add more storage with the micro SD card slot. The dial on the front works very well. It makes navigating the menu screens a breeze. The lock slide switch on the side is a great feature, too. Battery life seems good. It takes several days of use just to get it below half-way on the battery meter. Loading music and podcasts is a snap. You just drag and drop items from Windows Media Player to your player and click the sync button. No extra software required. If you want a great sounding, easy to use MP3 player that won't break your budget, I would highly recommend this Sansa Fuze 2 GB Video MP3 player

"Definietly a good buy!"

I bought my sansa fuze about 3 months ago and it works wonderful! I use it to run with while I'm jogging. I usually listen to my own music or I listen to the radio. Definitely has a good battery life. When the battery is running low, I just charge it up for an hour or so on my lap top and it is good as new! It's very simple to upload songs on. It's also very compact and easy to run with. Would definitely reccomend it!!!

"Handy little player"

Ordered this when I lost my 4gb fuze. Added an 8gb microSDHC card, installed rockbox, and there isn't much more I could ask for. Good battery life with decent sound quality and screen. Of course, I consider anything that doesn't make my music sound like 128kb MP3s to have good sound quality with my CX-300s. Overall, good little player to keep in a coat pocket for when you're bored.
